A portrait of meDaniel Nagy

Hi 👋, my name is Daniel but you can just call me Dan.

I'm a fullstack software developer with 8+ years experience in Web development and hybrid mobile app development. For most of my career I have specialized in frontend Web development.

My journey into computer science began in 2010 when I was gifted an iPhone 3GS. I became obsessed with jailbreaking and customizing the operating system. I remember one extension in particular that enabled using Web technologies to add widgets to the lockscreen. Little did I know but this was my first experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

After highschool I was very unsure about what I wanted to do in life but my jailbreaking adventures made me eager to learn more about programming. I decided to go to college and get a degree in computer science. The curriculum was in C++ and I struggled a little at first. However, I never gave up and finally something clicked. I graduated from Ohio University with a computer science degree in 2015.

Since earning my degree I have worked primarily in Web development and have grown an affinity for the browser as a platform for distributing content and knowledge and as a place for community and self expression. Over the past 8 years I've worked with many different technologies on both the backend and frontend. While most of my experience has been on the frontend, I don't necessarily have a preference for one end of the stack over the other. I like switching back and forth and knowing what is happening on both ends.

My current interests include functional programming, type systems, developer experience, Web technology, and architecture. Outside of computer science I like to play soccer, rock climb, and ride my motorcycle. I also have a 2 year old cat that likes to cause trouble.
